An Exodus to Alberta?

By

What’s behind the exodus of Ontarians to Alberta? That’s the question asked by this MPAMAG Article that we found pretty interesting. According to the author, this year in Q2 alone more than 37,000 migrants flooded to Alberta from elsewhere in Canada, mainly Ontario.

Citing housing and cost of living as the primary driving forces behind the move, they note that Alberta is ready to welcome them with open arms. So ready in fact, The Province is leaning into the opportunity with an “Alberta is Calling” advertising campaign, prominently featured in recent weeks at Toronto’s Bloor-Yonge subway station, encouraging Ontarians to make a fresh start in a province that’s “affordable, friendly, and rich in opportunity.”

We asked CEO & Founder Gord McCallum how First Foundation fits in:

"With a number of Canadians looking to leave higher cost jurisdictions like the metropolitan regions in Ontario and BC, we're finding that the one-stop-shop aspect of First Foundation's business is resonating with people who are uprooting themselves and moving to more affordable markets like Edmonton, Calgary, and Saskatoon, among others. It's a lot of work to move your family, maybe even your career, all your possessions, and to set up new banking, wealth management, insurance and mortgage relationships. Being able to take care of all of those things in one place makes that process simpler."
