Canadian Mortgage Hangout | Mike Cameron | AMP Designation

By

It's been a while since I shared an episode of Canadian Mortgage Hangout on the #OwnGrowProtect blog here, but I thought one of the topics from this week was particularly fascinating. Special guest Mike Cameron, CEO of Axiom Mortgage Partners & Alberta Director on the CAAMP Board, talked about some reworking of the AMP designation.

What is the AMP Designation?

AMP stands for accredited mortgage professional. The AMP designation was launched in 2004, it was developed as part of the Canadian Association of Accredited Mortgage Professionals (CAAMPs) ongoing commitment to increasing the level of professionalism in Canada’s mortgage industry.

The Accredited Mortgage Professional (AMP) is the only national designation for Canada’s mortgage industry. CAAMP.org

AMP undergoing Changes

As it stands now, anyone who works in mortgage lending in Canada can apply for their AMP designation, however from rumors being circulated and some of the conversation from the video below, the AMP designation is moving towards representing brokers only while other industry participants might have other designations created!

The way I see it, the AMP designation is a commitment to professionalism in our industry, both Gord McCallum and I have our AMP designations and look forward to the changes coming down the track making the designation even more relevant.
