A Door By Any Other Color

What do you think of the color of your door? Mine is a lovely shade of nothing very much at all. I'm thinking it's time for a change. I'd love to be one of those people with a jaunty, red colored door but what would it say to the world? What do I want it to say?? Buffy and Tad live here? Come right in, I'd get the door but I'm very busy refinishing my French-country armoire? How do you say, “BYOB”, in door?

According to the article, What Does Your Front Door Say; your front door is thought to be the “mouth” of the home, the entry point where energy, abundance and opportunities may find us. I’m definitely doing the whole door thing wrong.

My research indicates that if I choose a periwinkle or sky blue, color psychologist would say I view my home as a place of refuge -- calm, serene, and relaxing, the perfect retreat from an often harsh and demanding world. Does anybody know what the exact opposite of periwinkle blue is?

A black front door projects strength, sophistication, power, and authority, indicating to all who enter or even passersby that the home is a serious place inhabited by a person of substance. Well, that’s impressive. I may consider painting the entire interior and exterior of my home black. And the Shih Tzu.

Purple doors are popular these days, maybe I want a purple door. Let`s see…ah, yes, " Wealth, wisdom, exotic ", are words associated with the color purple. I can say with certainty that if I tried to obtain some, I would soon find out that the powers that be have instructed the employees at the Home Depot to never sell me a can of purple door paint. Purple is way out of my league, I know this. I’ll move along.

An orange door indicated that those who dwell here have a peaceful and happy relationship; green connotes health, safety, tranquility and harmony and brown conveys warmth, stability and reliability. This is not going well.

It seems my search for the perfect shade of, " Don`t be afraid, just wear this hard hat and don’t look that little blond girl directly in the eye, hey, where are you going? Take me with you!! ", may take a little longer than I first anticipated but I’m certain now that I want that red door by the time I’m 55.

Apparently, in Scotland, it`s traditional to paint your front door red when you've paid off your mortgage.

I knew I liked red best.
